Who's who
Staff and church officers
All members of Christ Church contribute to the life of our church family as they use
their gifts for God's glory. Much of what goes on within Christ Church happens only
because of committed members of our congregation who take on pastoral and organisational
responsibilities alongside their full-time jobs.
You can meet some of the church staff and officers below.
Staff
Steve Midgley
Minister
Steve Midgley was appointed minister of Christ Church in 2003. He was an undergraduate
medic at Jesus College, Cambridge, and much to his surprise became a Christian during his
time there after being persuaded to read an account of Jesus' life. Before training for the
ordained ministry he spent eight years working in London, initially in general practice and
then in psychiatry. After a curacy in Hove he returned to Cambridge in 2001 as Associate
Minister at St Andrew the Great church, before leading a church graft in 2003 into Christ
Church Cambridge.
Steve's main responsibilities are to pastor the church through teaching the Bible and prayer,
lead the staff team and lay leadership, set the vision for the church and promote evangelism.
He is married to Beth and has three children - Tom, Abby and Ellie. Hobbies include rowing,
cricket and keeping his iPAQ under control.
Chris Lowe
Associate Minister
After working in investment banking in London and a brief period of working in France,
Chris left his job to undertake an apprenticeship at St Helen's, Bishopsgate before going
on to study at Cornhill. He then undertook four years of theological training at Oakhill
before joining the staff team in July 2008 as Associate Minister. His specific responsibilities
are preaching and leading the oldest youth group, Grafted.
Chris is married to Meg and they have two daughters, 2 year-old Emilie and new-born Sophie.
Richard Newman
Families Worker & Buildings Manager
Richard has two areas of responsibility. As Families Worker Richard oversees the youth and
children's groups: Grafted, Pathfinders, and Sunday Club. He has a deep desire to see the
children grow in knowing Jesus from His Word. Richard is also our Buildings Manager and oversees
the church's £700k refurbishment programme which aims to configure and modernise the church and
its halls so activities can be carried out more effectively.
He is married to Joy and has three girls - Anna, Lucy and Emily. When not knocking walls down
or visiting hardware stores he enjoys spending time with his family.
Tarita Rumford
Pastoral Worker & Administrator
After seven years working in finance Tarita left her job in 2006 to start working at Christ Church.
She spent the first two years as a pastoral worker whilst studying 2 days a week at Cornhill - a course
which equips men and women to teach the Bible effectively and train others in pastoral leadership.
Tarita's main responsibilities at Christ Church are women's pastoral care and leading 20TWENTY (18-30s group).
She is also responsible for the church's administration, is personal assistant to Steve and oversees the two apprentices.
When not trying to keep the church running smoothly and helping Steve get to places on time, Tarita enjoys
spending her free time rowing, meeting friends for coffee and going clothes shopping when her budget allows.
Scott Furey & Ben Naseman
9:38 Apprentices
Scott & Ben are responsible for doing all the jobs that keep the church running. When they aren't folding
service orders you can find them supervising a crèche, supporting Tarita with the administration and preparing
Bible studies for Grafted. Scott and Ben spend one day a week doing TEAM (Training for East Anglia Ministry).
Scott is a leader in Pathfinders and Ben is a leder in Grafted.
Church officers
Wardens
Charles Hall, Ian White and David Peet are the wardens at Christ Church.
They have been elected to share the overall pastoral responsibility for the
church family with Steve. In addition to monthly meetings with Steve they sit
on various church committees and provide valuable input into decision making and
long-term planning.
Treasurer
Martin Frost has the responsibility of managing the church's finances. He sits on the Finance & Standing committee and works closely with other members of the church family who are responsible for the Christ Church ministry support trust and the building refurbishment fund.
Parochial Church Council
The PCC carries responsibility for the church both legally and spiritually. Summaries of its meetings can be downloaded in pdf format below:
