Staff and Church Officers

All members of Christ Church contribute to the life of our church family as they use their gifts for God's glory. Much of what goes on within Christ Church happens only because of committed members of our congregation who take on pastoral and organisational responsibilities alongside their full-time jobs.

Richard Newman
Associate Minister for Outreach & Buildings

I wasn’t looking for him, but wonderfully he was looking for me. In the words of Colossians 2:6-7 I ‘received Christ Jesus as Lord’ in 1981. After a stuttering start, I have never looked back. I suspect my colleagues think I’ve only got one memory verse in my armoury (No one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit, 1 Cor 12:3 – it’s the Spirit’s work to open blind eyes!) but I like to think there’s more where that one came from. My responsibilities in church life are varied, from helping care for the buildings to men and outreach.

Wherever my wife and kids are. I spend so much time working, it's a joy and relief to see them. But if we had to choose... Munich—people surf in the middle of the city.

Favourite Film
The Princess Bride. Because secretly we all know this is a true story. Fact: Rodents of unusual size have actually been discovered in a genuine fire swamp, see here.

Responsibilities of role
As overall Grafted leader, it's my responsibility to pray for, love, and share the good news with those aged 14-18 at Christ Church and the amazing team of volunteers that serve them.

Le Havre, France - My in-laws live here, looking out over the Channel. Plenty of great French restaurants and only a short way to some exciting history.

Associate minister for our over 55s, some of my work is to oversee our 4pm service, which offers a more traditional and contemplative engagement with God's Word, and also look after our Lunch Plus group on Wednesdays. I'm also partly involved with Tuesday Central.

Any Mission Impossible film… often feels like the ‘theme tune’ to my life - trying to juggle my work for Christ Church and Biblical Counselling UK with caring for my two highly excitable little girls!

Favourite Travel Destination
San Francisco. As you enter the city via the Golden Gate bridge you are suddenly surrounded by mist due to the altitude if you go at the right time, to then enter the wonderful place that is home to the Sea Lions, Alcatraz and Jazz!

Favourite Film
About Time. I have been known to enjoy a romantic comedy with the wife, I just love the fun idea behind this film of time travel made simple. It’s a sad ending losing a father, but is a great reminder that we are not immortal, and need to hold firm to our creator God’s promises.

Responsibilities of role
I look after the Church front office, our ministry trainees, administration, internal operations and some project management.
